We know how much deaf and hard of hearing people have been affected during the pandemic. Having to stay at home for long periods of time, not being able to visit, or receive visits from, family and friends, nor to go shopping nor on outings, has been a nightmare for many. Some people with hearing loss are not able to use a conventional telephone, and others have struggled with Zoom or similar technology to keep in touch by video calls.
Our Wellbeing Helplines in Maidstone and Canterbury have received hundreds of calls from clients wanting to know if we could set up some social groups for people with hearing loss, as the country slowly returns to normal. To which we say....."Yes we can!"
Our plan is to have up to 6 new Social Groups running before Christmas! The first groups will be in Thanet, Faversham, Tonbridge and Maidstone, next will be Ashford, hopefully followed by Gravesend/Dartford, Swanley area and Swale and several more by next Spring.
We also expect to have a Walking Group established in the near future!
To begin with, the groups will meet monthly, in comfortable, centrally located premises that are close to public transport and parking. Refreshments will be available and a token charge will be requested, to cover hire charges and expenses. Information about services to people with hearing loss, guest speakers and activities will be offered, and each group will decide what it wants to do.
We hope you will want to join your local social group!
