Social Groups

Social Groups

We know how much deaf and people living with hearing loss were affected during the worst of the pandemic.  Having to stay at home for long periods of time, not being able to visit, or receive visits from, family and friends, nor to go shopping nor on outings, was a nightmare for many.  Many people with hearing loss were not able to use a conventional telephone, and others struggled with Zoom or similar technology to keep in touch by video calls.

We quickly set up new Wellbeing Helplines in Maidstone and Canterbury, which received thousands of calls from clients wanting to know if we could set up some social groups for people with hearing loss, as the country slowly returned to normal....and we said....."Yes we can!"

Since September 2020 we have established new Social Groups! These groups are based in Ashford, Canterbury, Thanet, Faversham, Tonbridge, Maidstone, Meopham, Sheerness and Medway, and all have been warmly welcomed by local people.

The groups meet monthly, in comfortable, centrally located premises that are close to public transport and parking.  Refreshments are always available.  Information about all the services we can offer to people with hearing loss, guest speakers and activities are provided and each group decides what it wants to do.

We hope you will want to join your local social group!

For more information and an application form, contact our Social Groups Co-Ordinator, Vicky, by email to v.kirk@hikent.org.uk or telephone 01622 691151 during office hours.

We look forward to meeting you!
